In 1987, Donna graduated from Western Piedmont Community College with an Associate Degree in Science. She worked at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine as a staff RN and quickly worked her way up to Director of Nursing. In 1991, she accepted a position with Spruce Pine Community Hospital where she worked for fourteen years. Her responsibilities included providing quality care on the medical surgical unit and the emergency room. She obtained national certification from the Emergency Nurses Association as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN). She was also certified as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) through the North Carolina Medical Board. Donna then transferred to work as the outpatient infusion/chemotherapy unit nurse. During her time at Spruce Pine Community Hospital, Donna continued her education to complete a Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) in 2001 and a Master of Science Nursing with a focus in nursing education. In March of 2005, Donna accepted a position at Cancer Care of WNC, PA. She worked primarily as the clinic triage nurse. She continued her education while working at Cancer Care of WNC, PA, by completing a Post Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner. In January of 2007, she began training with Dr. Friedman, assisting him with physical exams and taking patient histories. Currently she is working as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Cancer Care of WNC, PA, with Dr. Friedman providing quality care to outpatient oncology patients.
