By carefully blending the latest scientific approaches along with a true sense of care and compassion, Dr. Friedman offers his patients a balanced approach to their treatment. He is respected for his ability to organize and make even the most complicated treatment schedules readily understandable by his patients and their families. He treats all cancers but has a special interest in hematology, especially hematological malignancies and coagulation disorders.

Dr. Friedman has been a member of the Cancer Care of WNC staff since 1995.He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.

He completed his undergraduate work with a BS in General Biology at the University of Maryland and went on to earn a Masters of Science in Zoology there as well. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Falute de Medecine, Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Friedman then earned his Doctor of Medicine from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine (CUNY) and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine as well as his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Royal Victoria Hospital of McGill University.

Dr. Friedman is a member of the American Medical Association, the North Carolina State Medical Association, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additionally, he serves on the boards for Mountain Area Hospice and the American Cancer Society.

He is a runner and loves sports of all types.
