Dr. Pekal brings a friendly, colorful personality along with a brilliant mind for the benefit of each of her patients. She is known for being open and well as very concerned with each patient's well-being.

Dr. Pekal joined the Cancer Care of WNC staff in 1997. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology. A native of Poland, Dr. Pekal is fluent in English and Polish.

She completed her undergraduate work at the CUNY - Hunter College in New York City. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn and completed her internship, residency and fellowship programs at Tufts University School of Medicine and Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Dr. Pekal is a member of the American Medical Association, The American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the Medical Society of North Carolina as well as the Buncombe, and Haywood County Medical Societies. She is presently affiliated with Mission St. Joseph's Hospital, as well as Haywood Regional Medical Center and Transylvania Community Hospital.

Away from the office, Dr. Pekal puts her creative energies to work on a variety of craft projects.
